Fantastic Flyhalves

Paul de Beyer,  02/09/2011

Throughout the history of the World Cup there have been some truly magnificent flyhalves. From the likes of Michael Lynagh to Joel Stransky, Andrew Mehrtens to Jonny Wilikinson rugby viewers the world over have been treated to some truly fantastic feats.

Troublesome Teams

Paul de Beyer,  01/09/2011

Apart from the five top ranked sides there are a few teams heading to this year’s IRB Rugby World Cup with hopes of causing a few upsets, and perhaps even find themselves pushing for minor glory.

Argentina was the surprise package of the last tournament in France, making it all the way to the semi-finals where they lost to eventual champions South Africa.

Flair or Failure

Paul de Beyer,  31/08/2011

The one question on the lips of every spectator moments before the start of any French test match is always the same: who will rock-up today?

The French national side have always been known as true rugby artists

Dark Horses

Paul de Beyer,  31/08/2011

It’s been eight years since England won their first and only World Cup, but for the first time since the glory days of ‘”Dad’s Army” an English team arrived at the international showpiece looking quietly confident. It was Martin Johnson who captained them to World Cup glory in 2003 and it is the same charismatic, no-nonsense man who leads them this time around, only this time as coach.

Young Upstarts

Paul de Beyer,  30/08/2011

In the last season and a half the world has watched a young Australian side develop from young upstarts to true contenders for the title of world champions at the IRB Rugby World Cup.

Venerable Veterans

Paul de Beyer,  30/08/2011

The one word you wouldn’t use to describe the Springbok squad heading to the IRB World Cup is youthful; however this venerable group of veterans must surely go into the tournament as serious contenders.

Forever Favourites

Paul de Beyer,  30/08/2011

The one team anyone thinks of when they think of rugby excellence is New Zealand. The mighty All Blacks head into every World Cup as clear favourites, but have struggled to replicate their astonishing form during the one tournament they so badly want to win.

Few Surprises as Boks Back Old Boys

Paul de Beyer,  26/08/2011

There were few surprises on Tuesday the 23rd of August as Springbok coach Peter de Villiers announced his squad to defend the IRB Rugby World Cup title at the tournament in New Zealand.

Passion v Panache

A clash of styles is expected when hosts New Zealand take on Argentina in the last quarterfinal of the 2011 Rugby World Cup, with the skill, precision and panache of the All Blacks pitted against the passion, guts and heart of Pumas.
