Abercrombie impressive, but needs further
Mark Bass,  16/04/2012

Abercrombie, by star rising sire Trippi, broke his maiden in his second start over 1200m at Kenilworth under Bernard Fayd’Herbe. He will need much further, which made the win full of merit and he may be one to watch from the Bass stable.

He is bred in the purple being the first foal out of the group one mare Stratos, who Mike Azzie trained to seven victories for Team Valor up to 1800m.
“I didn’t expect too much from him over this trip from an inside draw, so this was a good win from him” said Mike Bass. He has shown us a lot of promise back home and has a lot of improvement still to come, so keep an eye on him. He is owned and bred by Drakenstein Stud in partnership with Harold Muller who were equally pleased with his maiden victory.

Slick Jet, won a tightly contested affair in the fifth, a MR 80 handicap over the same distance to give Bass his second for the afternoon. This is his third win from seven starts for the Jet Master who is also out of a group one winning mare, Fair Maiden.

De La Rey could only manage another second after a late challenge behind the Stewart trained New York Minute in the third over 1000m. We were hopeful he would get up on this occasion, despite the distance being a bit sharp but was outpaced in the early stages. He now has nine close up places from his last ten starts over the sprint distance!
