What A Winter to return to best in Mercury
Mark Bass,  12/07/2012

What A Winter returns back to his best trip to take on a fair field in this year’s WFA Mercury sprint at Clairwood this Saturday. Mike Bass feels he has his charge well for Saturdays clash and if he runs the way we’re accustomed to, he should be the horse to beat, he said.

We have been left a bit muddled and frustrated with his last few starts in Natal and can offer no real explanation as to his underperformance, but we have him well going into this week’s race and he has demonstrated good work all week long, so we can only remain hopeful that he delivers this time around. He is nice and sound and there is no reason why he should not run his race. He enjoyed a good grass gallop on Tuesday morning said Mike “ He also sprinted up really well this morning so I am expecting him to offer his best form on Saturday.”

Being a WFA race he obviously comes in well weighted and in addition is drawn towards the outside of the Clairwood track (13), so will have every available chance from there. He has it all going for him this time, so hopefully we will have no excuses to offer next week.

Mike makes Antious the horse to beat, “I rate Antious very highly, he went amiss in his last start badly, but I would draw a line through that and I think he might be the one to give my horse a go at the finish”

Rushing Wind has had another good season in Natal, he is versatile and comes out of a good win over a mile last time out. He came up a length and half behind August Rush in this race last year and we give him another good place chance. His is doing very well at home and he should be running at them again this time.

“Hopefully we can whack em with a 1, 2” said a Mike jestingly.
